We have been learning about the largest mammal in existence--the blue whale. (Please look at the blog post two posts down.) The older math group decided they would see just how long 100 feet is because that is the length of a blue whale. They began by estimating 100 feet on the parking lot outside our school (we made sure no cars interrupted their experiments). It is hard to estimate 100 feet and the students had to estimate, measure, reestimate, and remeasure several times until they figured out this length. Once they had measured and marked successfully, they celebrated their discovery with a 100-foot run. Lots of fun!
