Every week or so a "mystery reader" visits our classroom. This week the reader was Brooke Dyer, a Birches mother who has illustrated eight children's books, sometimes in collaboration with her mother Jane Dyer. Brooke read several books, including her latest Santa Claus and the Three Bears. After reading the books, Brooke answered questions. We learned that it takes her about a year to finish illustrating a book, from the first conversations with authors to sending and amending sketches, to painting the final pictures. She is beginning a new project this winter and we are looking forward to hearing how she is progressing. How lucky we are to share a little in Brooke's creative process!
