What better way to begin the new year (2015 for most people; 10 C.E at Birches) than to arrive in ancient Rome and begin to explore its culture? The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Graders are learning about architecture in both ancient and modern times. During math, they have begun their apprenticeships under both Ianus (Ian) and Castia (Kate). They will be given tasks to help them learn about measurement, geometry, multiplication, division, fractions, and more. Today they received apprenticeship contracts and log books which they will complete daily, in prepration for becoming qualified architects, able to design and build their own structures. During Investigations, they have been studying arches and are experimenting with a variety of materials (including the sugar cubes pictured above) to construct their own arches. What an exciting start to the new year!
