The Geometric Forms of Castles

The Kindergartners and 1st Graders are studying castles. The 1st Graders looked at different pictures of castles on the computer and talked about the geometry used in castle architecture. They learned about cylinders (and spiral staircases) as well as cones and pyramid-shaped turrets. The students theorized lots of good reasons for the design of different parts of castles, such as why drawbridges are made from rectangles (not triangles) and why battlements are made from rectangles (not semi-circles). Now the Kinders and 1st Graders are going to sally forth from their castles and search for dragons!
