Birches All-School Campout

It all started when...

Birches K/1 teacher, Florentien, suggested her first winter at Birches that the whole school celebrate the end of year with a campout in the field adjacent to the school. When spring came, Florentien quickly realized that the field was waist high in grass and would not work--thus the playground campout was born!

Every June, families and staff pitch their tents on the play yard and campout under the stars--Birches style. After a delicious potluck, parents, staff, and students bring out their instruments and the whole school joins for a sing-a-long. This is promptly followed by s'mores over the campfire and lots of playing and laughing amongst the tents. As the sun sets, families gather and head into the woods to go on a silent owl walk. The kids all know the trails by heart and it's often parents who are nervous about trekking them in the dark!

Everyone settles into their tents back at the playground and wake up in the morning to toast bagels over the campfire and celebrate another successful campout!

We are very excited that our 2018 Campout will be held on the beautiful, wide lawn of our new campus. Much more room to spread out and much better woods to explore!
