Hi, I’m making the journey to the new world because I want religious freedom.
Hi, I’m making the journey to the new world for more land.
Hi, I’m making the journey to the new world because of the enclosure act.

Hi, I’m making the journey to the new world because I’m hoping to find riches

Two weeks ago we began a new simulation creating a colony.  We are pretending to be people from England in the early 1600’s, escaping King Charles I, in search of a better life.  Some are leaving for better land, others for religious freedom, and yet others in search of riches.  We’ve been working on it in both writing and math.  During writing workshop we’ve been writing persuasive letters or ads to convince people to join our colony.  We’ve had to give reasons as to why it’s worth leaving England. During math time we’ve had to agree on what trades we wanted in our new colony, and how many different people we wanted with those different jobs.  We plan to bring along carpenters, weaver, seamstresses, soldiers, and much more. We’ve been given a budget, and that budget was dependant on what our reason was for leaving England.  We are now calculating the supplies we’ll need for the journey.  We’ll need to have enough supplies to last our entire colony for one year.  In addition to basic foods, we’ll be bringing animals, seeds, armory, clothing, and goods to trade.  We’re excited to get to the new world and begin establishing our colony.  It’ll be hard leaving our family and friends behind but are looking forward to new adventures and the freedom the New World will provide.
