Intern Teacher - 2018-2019 School Year

Position Description:

Birches School, a K-8 school offering a nature-based, mindful, interdisciplinary education, is seeking an Intern Teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. This paid internship pairs a beginning teacher with mentor teacher(s) in mixed grade elementary classrooms, enabling interns to develop and refine their individual teaching skills with increasing responsibility throughout the year. During the academic year, the intern will train directly with experienced teachers and learn how to design and deliver project-driven thematic units that cultivate the academic and social development of students. Interns are expected to support co-curricular activities (such as specialist classes, electives, and Afterschool programs) and perform other duties as assigned.  Interns will attend and participate in weekly faculty meetings and receive professional support and development from peers and administrators.

  • Commitment to social-emotional development of children (Responsive Classroom skills preferred)

  • Computer experience (Google Suite experience preferred)

  • Willingness to teach in the Afterschool Program

  • Commitment to the Birches School mission and culture

  • A sense of humor

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required)
