AMY ROTHSCHILD, M.Ed

Amy Rothschild is an early childhood educator and writer. She developed an interest in Reggio Emilia-inspired teaching while studying English at Yale. After graduation, she worked as a teaching apprentice at Shady Hill School and earned a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Lesley University.  She then taught for more than a decade at public and independent schools, including serving on the educational leadership team of Capitol Hill Day School in Washington, D.C.  Alongside teaching, she contributed to the national conversation about universal Pre-K, civic education, and socioeconomic inequality for outlets like The Atlantic and The Washington Post.

Currently, Amy is working on a poetry collection engaging with Walden Pond’s past and present, as well as a collection of essays drawing on the history of the teaching profession. Her recent poetry has appeared in a range of literary journals and been featured at the Massachusetts Poetry Festival. She also serves on the Board of her co-housing community in Cambridge and participates in local organizing with the Boston Immigration Justice and Accompaniment Network (BIJAN). Amy and her husband Ben are in awe of the teaching and learning that happens at Birches. Their son is thrilled to be in second grade here.
