Community Connections

As an intentionally small school, Birches emphasizes community connections with all Birches families, and our parents are happy to meet you! Complete the form below to connect with a current Birches School parent to learn about their experience in our community. We look forward to hearing from you and sharing what Learning in Harmony with the Natural World looks like at Birches.

Amy, Current Parent

Family lives in: Cambridge

Grade(s) of Child(ren): 1st

Interests of Child(ren): Science, Explorations, Music

Why did you choose Birches? It’s experienced teachers. The combination of play-based and academic rigor.

My favorite children’s book is: Zoey and Sassafras

My kid can’t stop talking about: Birches Bioblast, the silly songs at All School Meetings, the class’s favorite spots in the woods.

I love Birches because: My kid is known here. Every adult forms meaningful connections with the children.

Katelyn, Current Parent

Family lives in: Weston

Grade(s) of Child(ren): 1st and 4th

Interests of Child(ren): Music, athletics, exploring the outdoors.

Why did you choose Birches? We chose Birches because of its strong commitment to outdoor education, its emphasis on project-based learning, and the benefits of mixed-age classrooms. We were also drawn to the school’s close-knit community and the dedicated teaching teams that support each grade band. Most importantly, we wanted a place where our children could grow as individuals while also developing a sense of belonging within a community— all the way through Middle School.

Years at Birches: 2

Paula, Current Parent

Family lives in: Chelmsford

Grade(s) of Child(ren): 1st and rising Kindergarten

Interests of Child(ren): My children love to hike in the woods, discuss Pokemon, ride bikes, create with recycled materials, and visit playgrounds.

Why did you choose Birches? We chose Birches because of the co-teaching model, the large time the children spend outside (rain or shine!), the dedication to place-based learning, and the kind and inclusive community.

I love to talk about: the funny things kids say, the brutal honesty of parenting, and the TV show “Survivor” :)

Years at Birches: This is our second year at Birches and we love it! My youngest is very eager to begin his Birches journey next year!
