ASSISTANT TEACHERS

2026 Summer Explorations 


Birches School seeks enthusiastic, collaborative Assistant Teachers for its 2026 Summer Explorations program (June 29 - July 31).

Each week of Summer Explorations offers engaging nature-based activities, including hands-on arts and crafts, scenic hikes, and exciting outdoor games. Whether creating unique projects, uncovering secrets of the forest, or fostering teamwork through dynamic activities, every day is designed to inspire a love for nature and create lasting memories. 

Summary: A Summer Explorations Assistant Teacher is a full-time position during the five-week session. Assistant teachers are members of the teaching team, supporting the lead teachers in offering a rich, thematic, nature-based program of experiences and activities for children (K-3). Successful candidates possess a strong work ethic and are committed to making camp a joyful experience for every child. 

Responsibilities:

  • Help plan daily experiences/activities and support facilitation as directed by the lead teachers

  • Supervise children throughout the day, including snack breaks and lunch (shared coverage with lead teachers during snacks and lunch allow for teacher breaks)

  • Participate in the preparation, organization, and clean-up of all materials and spaces each day

  • Work collaboratively with lead teachers, other assistants, CITS, and the Summer Explorations Associate Director

Qualifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

  • Must be available for a one-day orientation

  • Must pass a CORI background check

  • Prior experience working with children is a plus

  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in summer camp activities such as hiking, team-building initiatives, physical games, and activities
